Real world evidence from Peru and Colombia confirms ivermectin safe and effective
The real world evidence about ivermectin combined with the findings from meta-analyses of clinical trials provide compelling evidence for the safety and effectiveness of ivermectin, according to Dr David Scheim.
The study by Lopez-Medina and colleagues in Colombia provides evidence that high-dose ivermectin – 7.5 times the normal dose – is not associated with serious side effects. Furthermore, there were no deaths from covid-19.
In Peru, which has a population of 33 million, ivermectin was used autonomously by 25 separate states at different times. The results of mass treatment of covid-19 in this way show that intensive ivermectin treatment of covid-19 is closely correlated with sharp falls in excess deaths. This, combined with the finding that ivermectin treatment is associated with an average 78% reduction in mortality in clinical trials, provides a persuasive case for the use of ivermectin.
There was much less evidence of effectiveness when penicillin was first discovered, tested in 15 people and quickly used in the battlefields of World War II, notes Dr Scheim. “The data for Peru and ivermectin is far more conclusive than it ever was in the battlefields of WW2 for penicillin and ivermectin is totally safe. Governments around the world should use ivermectin en masse to treat people who are sick with covid in harmony with vaccination for prevention. There is no downside”, concludes Dr Scheim.
